Message from the Board of Trustees
2015 has been a year of sadness, chaos and turmoil but it has also been a year of faith in mankind and great hope seeing the amazing humanitarian efforts of ordinary folk.
UK Medical Aid to Pakistan began the year by holding an event in honour of the terror-inflicted children of the Peshawar tragedy. With your help we raised £5000 to help us support these children and their families.
In the summer, one of UKMAP young supporters raised over £1k in two days, those funds helped us to provide iftari, ORS and water to nearly three thousand people in partnership with CDRS Youth, when thousands of people died in the metropolitan city of Karachi due to the heatwave.
Our Gala Fundraising Event was held at the Raddison Blue, Portman Square London. Pakistani Actor Fawad Khan was the celebrity guest this year. The event was an overwhelming success and we were able to raise thousands of pounds with the continued support of our donors.
On 6th October Pakistan suffered another earthquake. UKMAP sponsored a doctor to provide medical support to the earthquake victims when sadly the disaster struck again.
We rounded the year as we started. On 16th December a vigil was held at the Speakers Corner in Hyde Park London in memory of the Peshawar School Children. A minute silence and prayers were held for the young lives lost and for world peace. Members of the public and passerbys joined in to pay tribute. We will never forget them and they will always remain in our hearts.
The Board of Trustees would like to thank all its donors and supporters for their continued generosity, as well as the endeavours that enabled UKMAP to continue supporting the previous projects while also being able to expand the projects further and start:
- Three more water filtration plants – two in Abottabad and one solar de-salination & filtration plant in Tharparkar Sindh. The terrain of Tharparkar is not only parched but the very little water that is available, is not only contaminated but is harmful to teeth and bones – you will see as young as 20 year old men and women with no teeth and bent due to bone degeneration
- Training of five more students to become doctors
- Second programme of midwifery training of women from Baluchistan
It gives us great hope that together with your generosity and goodwill we will continue to make a difference.
Wishing everyone good health and peace for 2016
MAP Young Supporters
UK MAP Board of Trustees is very proud of its young supporters who have been very active throughout this year:
In the summer, an unbelievable phenomenon in the 21st century happened when thousands of people died in the metropolitan city of Karachi due to the heatwave. This instigated one of UKMAP young supporters to raise funds to help those in need. We are proud of Maha Elley who raised over £1k in two days. In partnership with CDRS Youth those funds allowed us to provide iftari, ORS and water to nearly three thousand people.
On 8th November one of our young supporters did us proud by running the Athens Marathon in Greece. Congratulations to Dr Mina Husain on her great achievement. Mina was able to complete the marathon in record time and raised nearly £4000 for UKMAP clean water projects.
